Criminal Sessions of 29th instant,
but the cases were of minor importance, and the Prisoners few, I consented to their postponement till the next regular Sessions, which will take place on the 12th instant.
The absence of the Chief Justice has even up to this time continued, and I am considerably embarrassed by his continued illness, as in consequence of the position of two of the Members of the recent commission in relation to the case referred to in my Despatch No. 187 of 14th February, their re-appointment may be objectionable.
I have thought it right to report to you the difficulty in which I now find myself placed, and to add that the administration of Justice may be yet farther obstructed, for there is too much ground to anticipate the Chief Justice's withdrawal from the Bench for some protracted period or even his final retirement from the Public Service.
